Making a thread because I'm curious if the admin is going to upgrade anything or if this is just a re-implementation of the original Arisuchan. If you are going to upgrade anything what do you plan on implementing next? Please add the option for users to choose to hide posts before this place grows to a point it's overrun with low-effort posters.

it appears that previously if a post was submitted with both a file(s) and embed link that the files were stripped

posts can now contain files + embeds and both will be stored and rendered

additionally, the embed regex has been modified to fix escaped characters from playlist URL's and embeds have been moved to the files div

lastly, i integrated tegaki.js for Oekaki on /art/:

disabled multi-image for threads (OP's) but keeping it enabled for replies

because we do images on the left of a thread post, when theres a million images in an OP it makes the thread look kinda fucked up in board/index view

got our site added to an imageboard webring - you can see the boards from those sites on our webring page as well as with the webring JS button at the bottom of board indexes (next to the boards catalog button)

major JS changes - post hover has been overhauled, thread expanding got updates, thread and post hiding JS got some tweaks too

moved reply button, changed CSS so thread OP's maintain horizontal stacking until mobile layout shift

revamped next/prev/catalog/report/delete buttons

a bunch of minor CSS changes

some quality of life improvements to vichan under the hood

also enhanced our WAF rules and added some mitigations to vichan to block new bots we have seen recently

as you can tell ive had a lot of free time on my hands lately

Its about the same-ish experience except the following positives/negatives:
- requires sign up
+ keeps your nick connected when you leave the page / enables chat history (…like Discord…)
- it will use the name part of your email as your nick by default (signing up with name@domain.com would make you "name" in IRC)

the signup requirement is a little annoying, but its our own server and i don't give a shit to try and access your credentials. you shouldnt be using shared credentials anyways. additionally, the email address you use does not need to be valid. (you dont have to verify it)

the bouncer feature is actually pretty nice, after you register/log in, every time you go to the webirc URL in the same browser youll get automatically logged back in and have chat history wowowowow (LIKE DISCORD)

plug you can log in from multiple devices (LIKE… FUCKIN…… UHH…… DISCORD…)

Still, starting a board afresh is not really realistic nowadays.

How would you feel about just branching off arisuchan.jp data?

You've already grabbed the name so why stop there and not be a true successor? Sophia surely wouldn't mind.

I don't really know how `vichan` stores data but my guess would be simply as `*.json` / `*.html` files.

In that case, one could simply grab all the `*.html` files from `legacy.arisuchan.jp`, then reconstruct `*.json` files from `*.html` files (I could do that, for example).

What about the existing posts on this imageboard then? One could just prepend a few digits to them so that they don't conflict with the legacy arisuchan posts.

Say, arisuchan stopped at `id` < 4000.

i had thought of "branching" their data when i first made this site and decided against it

off the top of my head, some of the issues i have with it are:
> there are boards there that dont exist here and i dont want them to exist here (like /ru/ for example, im not going to moderate that and neither are my people)

> i dont want the original sites admins/mods messages on my site (i cant realistically go through the old sites mod/admins posts to make sure they reflect the current sites ideals/rules/etc)

> same goes for discussion about the old site, a huge chunk of (if not all of) /q/ from arisuchan.jp would not make any sense being here

I personally am more of an "internet researcher", i.e. I like sometimes to read archives, etc.

For me, it's perhaps akin to archeology as a science, etc. Discovering what was the spirit of a certain period of time.

I find posting new threads not as engaging as the journey of discovering the old stuff.

i get part of what you're saying, our main site just isnt a good place for that

as an alternative, i went ahead and downloaded arisuchan.jp's archive and am now hosting a mirror of it on our domain

a link to our mirror of the archive has been added to the sites front page

additionally, i modified the mirrors front page to include boards that are not listed on .jp's archive (maybe there are some you didnt know about)

this way, if the original archive disappears one day it will still exist here

also an FYI since you seem like the archival type - i committed the entire 5.4gb mirror to cache - that way it loads as fast as possible via cloudflares global CDN, browsing or downloading it wont contribute to our server/network load whatsoever
